SG Day

We took the bus down to NYC for the first SG day! The lure of authentic hawker food was too much to bear. But now I'm so regretting it because ...

1. I was sick before I left, now I am sicker. My sore throat has morphed into a cold.
2. I thought the weather would be nice so I went. It was too nice .... 80 degrees.
3. Queuing for miniscule portions of food in 80 degree weather sucks.
4. My idol Anthony Bourdain was there but I did not see him. A photo with him would have made my day :P
5. The girl standing behind me in line for 30 minutes had the most annoying shriek ever. I wanted to gag her my kaya finger sandwich
6. Who the hell are the pa paya girls?

Culture Shock

China was awesome, I especially enjoyed the noodle breakfast every morning :) foot massages and peach egg tarts from KFC! In any case I'm glad to be home. The toilet situation was rough (a hem ..trough) and the people ... aggressive. They can smell a foreigner from a mile away. But it was fun and I wanna go back! So many sights we haven't seen yet ...

Kunming was like any developing city. Suprisingly there was mad infrastruture with roads going out for hours. It also felt very safe, perhaps because the foreign tourists haven't invaded the place yet. We visited a business started on microcredit. The owners were really sweet and J made out (well traded) for a free sweater. Wish we brought more gifts with us!

Dali was aight, not really worth an overnight train ride on the Chinese train there, though it was quite an experience! At least we got to share the cabin with my fellow classmates and fully savor the cigarette smoke emitting vents.

My favorite was Lijiang. It's set in the mountains and gorgeous! Interestingly Singaporean business men have already discovered this place. There is a Banyan Tree Resort in Lijiang (we headed out there when we got tired of roughing it out and needed some 5* luxury). A Singaporean business men also has a private ranch out in the country side .. middle of nowhere but it's beautiful!! And apparently NUS donated money to start a school in one of the little villages we visited.

Walking beyond Yuhu village. Got to experience star status with the crew from CCTV following us. Wonder how they will spin our visit!

But now its back to the real world and studying for midterms booo.

The Trip to CA

So I didn't end up taking photos at the big G. Too embarrassing to whip out a camera in the middle of the tour? Well anyway the campus was aight. It was nice, a typical silicon valley campus, a little like a university campus. The free food was awesome. I spied piles of shrimp and crab claws in the cafeteria! Imagine that?! Too bad they fed us in a smaller conference room instead :P and no seafood either. GRRR. But we did get to dip our hands in the fridge and help ourselves to all kinds of soda and fruit juices. I saw this guy drink like 3 bottles of "Naked" juice just because it's free...cheapo!

The company has awesome perks but its a tad too cultish for me. And I've done the whole tech company thing already ... oh but did u also know they let u take food home in take out boxes for dinner?! You can see photos by searching on flickr.

Anyway the weather was amazing that weekend. I got to see the flowers my dad grew ...

We also got to eat at this korean place called ...*drum roll* DA CHANG JIN lol

Book Recs Etc.

I'm heading to China on Friday for spring break but I hate long plane rides. Anyone read some good books lately? I need something in addition to all the darn cases and studying for that finance exam we have when we get back which I know I won't get to. HAHA. I hope china airlines has good movies.

Oh and tips for China are welcome too. I'm already bringing lots of tissue paper :)

Choice: Luxury or Curse?

*whispers* so recently I've been getting several internship offers. This damn mba is finally paying off! I applied for all these different jobs since I was kiasu and afraid I wouldn't get an offer. So now I am left with a variety of choices that all seem quite interesting. Spent the past 2 weeks wrecking my poor little brain over it and narrowed the finalists down to 2 places. The bank in sunny Singapore and the big G! Well the big G is not in my pocket yet. But I've been invited to a second round in CA! I'm so excited to roam the G-campus. I promise to take photos.

Though I don't know how I would choose between the two. The bank is a good opportunity for me to try something different. The big G is well the big G!! I can even bring Moxie to work! Though I've been in the web industry before and this is nothing different. HRMMM guess I shouldn't count my chikins before they hatch.

Battle Scars

The whole interviewing process is humiliating. Rejection bites. I am sick of putting on my battle gear -> ugly black or gray suit. I am sick of writing thank you notes to people I'm not really thankful for meeting. I'm sick of talking about my great and inspiring leadership experiences. I'm sick of meeting interviewers from that bschool across the river who never forget to remind you about their pedigree.

But really the point of my post is to vent about this particular company. I interviewed with them on Thursday. They tell me they'll let me know on Monday afternoon if I made the second round. Interviews are Monday evening. Hrmm isn't it kinda TIGHT?

I have a compulsory class to attend Monday evening. But why would I go out of the way to rearrange my schedule for an interview I'm not even sure I'll be called back for. So anyway they call me Monday at 1.30pm (they were still wrapping up first rounds on campus). I have class all day till 9pm. The HR person asks if I can come in at 6pm. I'm like no way, can I reschedule? And guess what she says!!! NO. OK first of all it's not like I am begging them to interview me ok. They called ME. So I was like whatever, I'll not be coming in for a second round, but feeling quite buay song.

Then today, they send me a rejection e-mail. Excuse me, but the last I checked I was the one who said no!! :( WTF!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

We didn't really celebrate this year. We usually cook a nice meal but we opted for Thai take out today. Though DH bought me a nice romantic tempur-pedic pillow. :) And I "ordered" with DH's credit card the Wii he's been wanting for a awhile. My arm hurts from punching and swinging already. Not sure how I'm going to explain this in school tomorrow!

On a whim ....

I got an email from an ibank this evening inviting me to apply for a position. Hrmm I've never considered banking as a career before (though it comes highly recommended by my brother). So anyhoo I decide to apply since I am kiasu and am now feeling stressed out. The interview is on Tuesday and I know nothing NOTHING about the whole banking deal. HOW? The worst part is I am leaving for TX tomorrow for a case comp and won't be back till really late on Sunday. Then I have an interview with amz on Wed and another on Friday and the following week I have 3 more. ARHGK *stresssssss* :( I have barely prepared my behavioral answers or practised for that matter. OH NO *panic*

Oh and can I wear my polka dotted shirt to the banking interview? Probably not huh? LOL

Trend Woes

I got this shirt today. It'll look so cute with pearls. Do you guys think it's too trendy for an interview? I'd wear it under a black suit for business formal and with a skirt or pants and a cardi for business casual ...

Darn I find business casual confusing, it's much easier to throw on a suit. I am so fashion unsavvy these days ... must be the age :(

We Back!

Paris

It's always depressing when vacation is over. At least I don't officially start school till Feb but in the meantime it's studying for interviews ... :( I need some motivation!

It was a blast in Vegas. Vegas is ostentatious. We like ostentatious. That means more than one chanel and LV store within a 1 mile radius!! Won some money playing video poker (not enough to buy even a keychain)! Watched the 'O' and Lionel Ritchie (not my choice). Went to the Grand Canyon, a huge hole in the ground. Probably nicer in the summer. Napa was fun, bought some wine but then realized we couldn't bring it back thanks to the new airline regulations. Guess we'll have it next time we're back in CA.

Our winter sonata shot keke. Yes yes we need to get rid of the matchy matchy scarfs. It's puke worthy but I think we look good in this photo lah hyukss. Indulge me.
In the Canyon

We also ate in Milpitas ...twice. Even though it's like an hour away. The asian food there is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I'm ready to move there :P

Rest of the photos are on flickr!

Damned MacBook

My **@*# macbook is broken again. This time the laptop doesn't recognize the battery so I have to plug it in all the time. WTF! I am going to the Mac Store tomorrow to throw a fit. :( To add insult to the injury I get rejected from the Apple internship. *GROWL* Say a prayer for the Mac Geniuses tomorrow :P

Sonoma and More

Christmas Tree

We've been so busy since we got to SF Sunday night. Spent Christmas at my aunt's place. I also got to meet the daughter of one of my relatives for the first time. She seemed to like me alot so I have to reciprocate :) she's such a cutie and I got at least 10 hugs from her for no reason awwww. Maybe I'm the youngest person she's met in a while keke

We headed down to Napa's less famous sister, Sonoma on Tuesday. It was raining and I was quite irritated with the weather but we made the best of it. Visited 2 small wineries (Lonely Planet endorsed) which was fun. At least tasting is still free!

Wednesday we did carmel and the 17mile drive. The ocean is way intimidating in the winter. The surfs were HUGE. It seriously felt like a tsunami was heading our way *gulp* ...

Thursday we picked up bro who came in from Singapore and we're off to LV tomorrow. Probably won't have internet access ...so Happy New Year y'all!

Merry Moxie X'mas Everyone!

I have a little too much time on my hands now that finals are over ... well not really since interviews are looming but I am a procrastinator at heart and I have to stay true to myself.

Halloween Photos!

I know Halloween was like 2 months ago ... but I've finally uploaded the photos! The theme was Japanese. Originally we wanted to be geishas but the white face paint wasn't really cutting it. S and I looked more like The Crow than Sayuri ....

Full Moon

Heeeeya!

PS. These damn Flickr photos don't resize very well anymore. Grrr! I tried to put up a bigger one and scaling it down but it looks grainy. It used to work! I hate flickr now.

Home Free ... For Now

OMG Finals are over and so is my semester from hell. I am also at least 5 lbs heavier but hey I never have to look at accounting again! Do you know how happy that makes me???

But now I have all sorts of errands to run. Gotta get my driver's license renewed (I've been driving on an expired one for a while now shhhh) and take the dog to the vet (poor Moxie's health has been neglected and laundry and the list goes on. Then we leave for Cali and Vegas on Sunday. YAY ... still have to plan what we're going to do. Send me suggestions!

Not feeling particularly inspired to write. But here's a funny photo of Moxie! She schleeps funny:

Moxie Sleeping!
